Environmental Guidelines

Published: Wednesday, 08 November 2017 18:27 | Last Updated: Tuesday, 09 January 2018 11:49

To comply with the provisions of the CNPE Ordinance no. 08/03, the areas offered in the tender rounds held by ANP are previously analyzed as for the environmental sensitivity by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) and by the state competent environmental organizations. The objective of this joint work is eventually exclude areas by environmental restrictions in overlay function with conservation units or other sensitive areas where it is not possible or recommended the occurrence of exploration and production (E&P)activities of oil and natural gas.

It is highlighted that after the restructuring of Ibama, the technical group responsible for prior analysis of the areas to be bid on includes in its present composition representatives of the Environment Ministry (MMA), Ibama and Chico Mendes Institute for the Conservation of Biodiversity (ICMBio), and it is called GTPEG - Interinstitutional Working Group of Exploration and Production of Oil and Gas (Ordinance MMA nº 119/08 and nº 218/12).

As a result of this joint work, opinions are drawn up by the environmental bodies containing some guidelines, which allow the future contractor to include environmental variables in its technical and economic feasibility studies of oil and natural gas E&P projects.

The environmental licensing of the activities to be developed in the area of Libra will be performed by Ibama through the General Coordination of Oil and Gas (CGPEG).
